Million Dollar Bear
Published in Hardcover by Random House Value Pub (September, 1998)
Author: William Kotzwinkle
Average review score:

What a heart-touching story!
The Million-Dollar Bear is the most entertaining story I have read for a while. It starts with two eccentric rich old men who both are absorbed in their collection of bears. But, they both want to own the first Teddy Bear - the million dollar bear. One actually steals the bear from the other and is pompous enough to admit it. I am drawn into the story by the "million-dollar" bear who only wants to be loved for who he is. Yet, he is kept in a temperature-controlled safe in the dark to preserve him. Then too, along the way, the author gives us "side-bars" of humor with episodes engaging the butler. A favorite bit of humor sneaks in when the child spies the eccentric millionaire wearing his false face disguise. This is a delightful story with a powerful impact for readers of all ages. The author weaves the story to bring a satisfying - yet, surprise ending. This book leaves me with a "warm and fuzzy" feeling.

This is a must have book for anyone who loves Teddy Bears!!
With the help of wonderful illustrations and great storytelling ability, you can truly feel this wonderful teddy bear's loneliness and his ecstatic bliss of finally being loved...really loved. Besides the cute story on the surface, there is an underlying message about how being too materialistic can cause us to miss out on much of life's true rewards. It's a book for children of all ages!!

Moondance..
I love this book because the pictures are great and I can relate. This story is about a bear that wants to dance with the moon but was scared to ask. So Bear asks the clouds, "Clouds, will you dance with me?" The clouds didn't answer so Bear went inside for bedtime. The next morning fog was outside and Bear was happy until the fog left. Bear cried and his friend Little Bird told him they went to work. Bear had work too, so they went inside. Next time Bear looked outside there was rain. Clouds sent rain to dance with Bear. After the rain left Bear wasn't sad. Did Bear ask moon to dance? Read the book to find out.

A great childrens book
This has always been one of my favorite chidrens books. I lovereading about bear and bird trying to dance with weather. The authoris very creative describing things such as when the fog comes bear thinks he dancing with the clouds. My little brother has also loved this, and he hardly likes any books. I also love it when the moon reflects of the puddle left by the rain, and he thinks he's dancing with the moon. This will always be one of my favorite chidrens books of all time.

a beloved book
My 21 month old loves this book. She begs for it by name. She loves investigating with Mr. Bear. As a byproduct of our many readings has learned many words from the book. We highly recommend it!

A wonderful first picture book for toddlers
One of our all time favorites. Mr. Bear has fallen asleep reading the newspaper and now he can't find his baby! This is a simple, sweet story with charming illustrations. It also has very durable lift flaps. We've been reading it with our daughter since she was just months old and now it is one of her favorites to sit and "read" through by herself. I notice it is one of the first books visiting toddlers and preschoolers go for when come to our house. Highly recommended.

A Must-Have for any Family
My daughter received this scrapbook for her birthday. At first, she was drawn to the colorful images and cute scenes. Muffy soon became her favorite friend. My daughter will spend hours pouring over the book, lifting the flaps and reading the different side notes. The scrapbook is unique in it's design, as the book itself has several different layers. Not only are there colorful pictures, but keepsakes, postcards and pull-outs. Since she discovered this scrapbook, my daughter has been eager to expand her Muffy Vandbear collection and, after looking at the book with her, I am happy to help her. As Christmas approaches, I know that Muff will be under our tree!

A beautiful book to cherish for life.
Muffy VanderBear is a delightful character that you will cherish once you've seen this book. Muffy talks about her life, her friends and her spirit. She has a vivid imagination and you will delight in all the layers of information and interactive elements that she sticks in her special scrapbook. There are letters, postcards, games and even her passport with stamps from all over the world where Muffy has been. Children will love to look at the book again and again. Each page invites you into a special place where only Muffy can explain how a teddy bear dreams of being a butterfly or why teddies never age. This book is a special keepsake of a special bear's life and you will love reading about her wonderful adventures. Parents will love reading this book with their children and I'm sure it will soon become a family treasure as it has in my family.

Great Book
My 21 month old loves this book. She was beyond "name that picture" types of board book and needed books with really simple plots (one sentence per page) that she could follow along with. This was the best we have found so far. THe illustrations and wonderful as well. We read it every night at bedtime. MUST ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION!

great book for children who love teddy bears
I thought this would be a good book for my 3 1/2 yr old daughter since she loves teddy bears. I was right. She just loves it. Since I just borrowed the book from the library, I need to buy it for her. We read it once a day. The pictures are big and beautifully done. She even recites the book around the house. A must for those who love teddy bears!

Authors: Gregory Manchess and Brian J. Heinz

I'm the artist for this great storybook!
I had a wonderful time painting the pieces for this book by Brian! Being a polar bear enthusiast, I loved the story from the very start. I think the story is visually excellent and I could have done many, many more paintings for the book. Brian has written a very real and accurate portrayal of Nanuk's harsh life of survival that is thrilling all the way along. It may be out of print but I believe that young people will keep discovering this gem in the libraries and be left with some powerful memories!

A must read
A great book that must be read. All readers will enjoy this thriller.

The New Mutants: The Demon Bear Saga
Published in Paperback by Marvel Books (December, 1990)
Author: Chris Claremont
Average review score:

Demon Bear Saga
If you're a fan of the New Mutants or Chris Claremont's original run on the Uncanny X-Men, it's definitely worth your time to find a copy of this quality comic trade paperback.

The incredible art is a great strength: it meshes very well with Claremont's focus on characterization and use of magic and psychic abilities.

Other X-Men/New Mutants titles or collections you may want to read: "God Loves, Man Kills;" "X-Men: Asgardian Wars," which includes pivotal stories for the New Mutant characters; and the second and third Essential X-Men collections, which introduces Illyana Rasputin and the New Mutants to the X-Men.

Breathtaking!
This book reprints The New Mutants 18-21 (from 1984), featuring the first four issues of Bill Sienkiewicz's stunning artwork on this title. These issues feature the first appearance of Warlock and supporting characters Tom Corsi and Sharon Friedlander, the arrival of Rachel Summers in this timestream, Magik's first experiences with her unusual armor, the destruction of Asteroid M, Dani's battle with the Demon Bear, and much more. The Claremont/Sienkiewicz combination is a touch more surreal than the New Mutants' usual fare, and helped to make the New Mutants a better-selling title than the X-Men for a time. Don't miss this one.

Oh Where, Oh Where?
Published in Hardcover by Barrons Juveniles (July, 1998)
Author: John Prater

perfect for toddlers
I haven't met a toddler yet who does not like to play hide-and-seek. In this book, baby bear plays hide-and-seek from an adult (it could be mama or papa bear, depending on the reader) bear. The illustrations are very simple and not at all threatening or scary.

My toddler son LOVES this book. He's 22 months old now, and he's enjoyed this book almost daily for about 2 months now. He delights to see the little bear fooling (or so little bear thinks) the big bear.

Over and over again we read this book.

This my 20-month-old daughter's favorite book!!
My toddler loves this book! She requests this charming book over and over. First I read it to her then I sing it. She giggles all the way through the book. She thinks the little bear is so clever! I enjoy the book as well; mostly I enjoy her response.
